# Electromagnetic momentum density

The **momentum density** stored by the [[Electric field|electric]] and [[Magnetic field|magnetic]] fields is
given by
$$
\begin{align*}
\vab g = \epsilon_{0}\mu_{0} \vab S = \epsilon_{0} \vab E \times \vab B
\end{align*}
$$
where $\vab S$ is the [[Poynting vector]].
This quantity is required to state conservation of momentum in electrodynamics via the [[electromagnetic momentum equation]].
